A wildfire of gossip and speculation breaks out when Signor Ponza and his wife move to town and shockingly take up residence in a separate house from his mother-in-law. With no regard for privacy, the community of this Italian village decides they absolutely must get the inside scoop. What these snoops discover sends them spinning - tales of love-induced trips to the madhouse, secret letters delivered by a bucket on a rope and pulley, and a case of mistaken identity that has been maintained for years.

"...True, "Absolutely! {perhaps}" is a comedy, perhaps even a farce - but a farce that needs some variation in pacing and tone. Pirandello, a pioneer of modernist theater, wrote his play in 1917. It examines the many ways in which humans perceive one another and reality itself. It delves into the nature of love, loss, sanity and the sanctity of secrets. Pirandello flouted theatrical conventions in his narrative. The "truth" shifts repeatedly in the play, like little tectonic aftershocks. The title, "Cosi e (se vi pare)" in Italian, has been translated into "Right You Are! (If You Think So)" and "It IS So! (If You Think So)," among other variations on the theme."

"...If the frustration of reading "The Lady, or the Tiger?" in high school still sets your teeth on edge, this play may give you a touch of PTSD flashbacks. Still, if you can brace yourself for a punchline that never shows up, the two-hour long joke being offered by Constellation is pretty enough to look at and funny enough to be well worth your time. Definitely. Maybe."

Director (and Artistic Director of Constellation Theatre Company) Allison Arkell Stockman moves her superb (and surprisingly large) cast like so many chess pieces around A.J. Guban's brilliant set, as they breathlessly try to unearth the truth about their unconventional new neighbors. However, don't be fooled by the Wilde-esque flimsiness of the whole affair; there is actually a serious philosophical discussion happening under the surface of ABSOLUTELY! {perhaps}, about privacy, morality, and the nature of truth itself."
