Distillation Reviews
DC Theater Arts- Recommended
"...Distillation is an experiential, interactive production presented by Solas Nua and Abbey Theatre at Eaton DC, brought to life by creator and performer Luke Casserly. It’s a unique blend of performance art and theater, with Casserly serving as the bridge between them. At the heart of this bridge is the star performer, the Irish bog, symbolized by a circular custom-made table by sculptor Ger Clancy and miniature bottled fragrances to be discovered by the audience."

"...“Distillation” is a memorable experience. As Solas Nua’s artistic director, Rex Daugherty explained, “It’s a blend of theatre and performance art that is more traditional in Ireland than in the U.S., a form of storytelling around the campfire that is the essence of theatre: let me from my heart tell you to your heart what matters to me.” Spoiler alert: every audience member is invited to take home a sample of the exquisite (in this reviewer’s opinion) perfume."

"...For those expecting to be immersed in what I imagine is the rich, loamy fragrance of the peat bog, the material, dried out from its journey, was a little disappointing. In its place, though, there are little vials of perfume, especially devised for the project from a perfumer in West Cork. (Joan Woods gets the rare credit in a theatrical program for “perfume”)."
