"...The Woman in Black starts slowly and with restraint, as if it were a stuffy Masterpiece Theatre production brought to life. The late playwright Mallatratt is known for his work on several successful British television series, including The Forsyte Saga, which in fact was featured on the American Masterpiece. But The Woman in Black has been a runaway success in London, where the play has been staged nonstop on the West End for a nearly record-breaking 14 years and counting. So just stick with it if at first you find yourself struggling to understand or stay awake."

The solicitor sees a flash of the "Woman in Black" at the funeral and at other places as his work progresses. Colin Smith and Mark A. Rhea, the directors, deftly pace and control the action through Michael Innocenti's inspired light design and Tony Angelini's manipulation of the important sound design that dominates the action with several events occurring only through off-stage sound effects."

The Keegan Theatre’s production of The Woman in Black is teeth-chattering terrifying. Colin Smith and Mark A. Rhea’s vision extends beyond inducing screams. I would compare The Woman in Black to a Dickens novel, but Mr. Kipps made it clear that no such comparison was to be made (“There is no Miss Havisham here.”) These horrors are too real and devastating to be relayed – you’ll have to go see them for yourself.
