"...For people who enjoy the fleeting variety of attention that accompanies standing up before a group of strangers, or who are drawn to a non-taxing activity that allows them to join in, “The Fever” will pass as a pleasant, maybe even consoling, diversion. For me, the only absorbing facet was the drama I sensed in the few seconds in which the audience had to arrive at a decision about who among us would volunteer for any given interlude. That wordless selection was carried out on an individual and group level at the same time. The way we achieved this, together, again and again, did give the experiment some momentary depth."

"...I’m not entirely sure if I enjoyed catching The Fever, as it were, but it’s unlikely I’ll contract anything like it in this lifetime at least. Like traveling to a foreign country for the first time, or even experimenting with recreational drugs, this performance offers an experience that the mind and body is unaccustomed to digesting. Inevitably, a small trace of it will remain in your bloodstream, and you can make of that what you will."

"...At times, “The Fever” borders on surreal. Lighting makes it appear as though the theater fades away; I could have sworn that a manufactured ringing in the ears was meant to disorient us, and musical cues are perfectly timed to trigger an emotional response. But “The Fever” is also as grounded as it is dreamlike. A particularly resonant section regards childhood in a way that evokes strong memories. We are constantly reminded that we are creating the piece with the actors, that we are in control of our own experiences. And if you commit yourself to the collaboration, you will leave the theatre with the funny feeling that you have experienced something extraordinary."

"...The Fever is not for everyone. If the idea of standing before a group of total strangers (and potentially looking silly) makes you break out in hives, this is not the show for you. But if you’ve ever thought of taking an acting or improv class, or wondered what it would be like to be part of a flash mob or collective movement—give it a try. Be on time (there is no late seating), wear comfortable shoes and keep an open mind."
