Ain't Misbehavin'

Harlem in the 1930's is immortalized in Fats Waller's swinging, high voltage revue. A true American original--Ain't MisBehavin' is still considered one of Broadway's finest. "The Washington Savoyards is absolutely thrilled to present Ain't MisBehavin'...against the nostalgic backdrop of the beautifully restored, historic Atlas Theatre! We knew that we needed to bring on Washington's best direction and talent in professional theatre in order to live up to the sensational experience that this production promises." -Tom Pedersen, Washington Savoyards Artistic Director. Director Michael Bobbitt and Darius Smith (musical direction) merge quixotic synergies to re-create this prodigiously witty comic and soulful jazz musical. "A tribute to the black entertainers of the early 1900's that centers on the music of one of the most prolific musicians of the time, Thomas "Fats" Waller.

The inimitable Thomas "Fats" Waller rose to international fame during the Golden Age of the Cotton Club, honky tonk dives along Lenox Avenue, rent parties, stride piano players and that jumpin' new beat, Swing. Although not quite a biography, "Ain't Misbehavin'" is a musical eulogy delivering a versatile, high-energy cast that struts, strums and sings the songs he made famous in a career that ranged from uptown clubs to downtown Tin Pan Alley to Hollywood and concert stages in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Ain't MisBehavin' will run at the Atlas Performing Arts Center June 3rd -19th Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 and Saturday and Sunday afternoons at 2:30. Tickets: $15, $35 & $40, can be purchased online at www.savoyards.com, or at the box office at 202.399.7993.
