Mister Lincoln Reviews

"...One can’t help but be moved by Bakula’s nuanced performance, at the very site of Lincoln’s assassination (and of the 1980 American premiere of Mitgang’s play, with English actor Roy Dotrice in the role). But as an evening out, “Mister Lincoln” remains more reverent than revelatory."

"...Recognizing that it’s a one-man show, performed in a hallowed space for this one man, it’s understandable that there’s a unreliable-narrator element behind the production. Despite some impressive tech work and talent, there wasn’t much of a surprise in Mister Lincoln."

"...While Mister Lincoln serves as something of a greatest hits tour of Lincoln’s career, this walkthrough of his life and career will likely have some unexpected turns or insights to those who aren’t die-hard Lincoln fans. There are hints of the depression that at times overcame him, the anger he felt toward his adversaries, and the frustrations he felt toward the country he governed. Lincoln the writer was a bit of a humorist and a master of joke setups and punchlines, which garner big laughs. Bakula delivers them good-naturedly—and it’s a feat to land a joke about Reconstruction."

"...Mister Lincoln is a one-man show detailing some of the most important moments in the 16th President's life, with an overarching frame/plot of his work around "ending" slavery. Scott Bakula, well-known television and film actor, took on the monumental (literally) role of representing the President in this 90-minute production, which is "rooted in historical records.""
