Miss Nelson is Missing! Reviews

"...Children’s theater is one of the most underrated and underappreciated forms of theater that we have. To sit in a room filled with kids, most under the age of 12, and hear their genuine reactions to a live performance happening in front of them is food for the artist’s soul. Yes, their theater etiquette may differ from the average adult’s, but they are warm, they are instinctive, and they are sincere. If something is working on stage, they will let you know. Similarly, if a bit doesn’t land, you will know it. So if raucous laughter and intermittent gasps from a young audience are any indication, Imagination Stage’s Miss Nelson Is Missing! is not to be missed."

"...This production, which had its world premiere at Imagination Stage in 2001 (and a return engagement in 2008), is an all-around delight. You realize it early on. Set Designer Milagros Ponce de Leon (who pulled at audiences' hearts with her arching, dramatic depictions of Anatevka and Ellis Island in Olney Theater Center's "Fiddler on the Roof") has crafted a beautiful rotating set, which brings audiences between the classroom and the community."

"...Imagination Stage often likes to get their young audience involved, and this show was no different. The kids were encouraged to yell out to the actors, especially to Jimmy Mavrikes who was hysterical as the bumbling Detective McSmogg. As for Miss Swamp, she actually comes right into the audience. Her appearance surprised my son and he loved it."
