"...Jagged Little Pill follows a year in the life of Mary Jane Healy, an upper-class stay-at-home mother, and her family: workaholic husband Steve (Chris Hoch), overachieving son Nick (Dillon Klena), and social justice advocate daughter Frankie (Lauren Chanel). Over the course of the show, the Healys are forced to confront the secrets that lie just below the surface of their carefully curated, picture-perfect lives."

"...At the heart of the story, which earned Diablo Cody (Juno) a Tony Award for Best Book, is the mother’s secret opioid addiction and the daughter’s budding bisexuality, each in their own way prompting intriguing and unexpected plot developments and topical discussions, often further enhanced by songs, both new and well-known, chiefly written by Morissette and producer Glen Ballard, including “Hand in My Pocket” (fueled by a discussion about gender expression and sexual identity), “Ironic” (naturally prompted by a debate in Frankie’s English class), and “You Oughta Know” (which becomes the kiss-off anthem for Frankie’s female friend/girlfriend)."

However, in Jagged Little Pill's case, Alanis Morissette's 1995 album of the same name is used to tell not her story, nor even a story set in the same time frame as the album's release, but rather a modern-day tale of themes that still ring true almost 30 years after the songs were written."

"...Any discussion of what's stellar about this national tour starts and ends with the performance that Broadway megastar Heidi Blickenstaff delivers as Mary Jane. (She also played the role on Broadway.) This production showcases all of her singing and acting talents, and offers a rare chance to see a polished, veteran Broadway star, at the top of her game, in a role that takes full advantage of her incredible skills. Blickenstaff drives the show, without turning it into a star vehicle, and she elevates the performance of everyone else on stage. Her emotional range is truly remarkable, and her performance alone is worth the price of admission."
