Fifth Date Reviews

"...It's always difficult to harken back to the recent past without appearing outdated; you get the lurking suspicion that, had this come out 20 years ago, it might've been a hit. At times, Fifth Date can feel oddly like a period piece, even if the period in question is the years when Two and a Half Men was still airing on CBS. Yet as today's culture increasingly turns toward Y2K with an almost reverential nostalgia, at the very least, this play proves that, while you might say a number of things were better back then, dating sure wasn't one of them."

"...Also, the cast could loosen up a bit along the way. When Ellis' character dramatically flings her falsies out in a moment of full disclosure, their unexpected landing in the salsa bowl provided the biggest laugh on opening night - so they could have taken note of it with an ad lib or at least an arched eyebrow reaction. Rolling with it is the only way such a comedy - or a relationship - has a chance to survive."

"...With this charming flashback of a romcom playing through the middle of November, Nu Sass Productions offers a refreshing and often silly escape from the current stressors of our larger world. Filled with heart and bravery, Fifth Date is a step back in time to the wholesome, quirky loves of the '90s and '00s, giving us all something to smile at, laugh about, and cheer for, which, in my book, makes for a pretty successful fifth date."
