Clue Reviews

"...“Clue: Live on Stage!” really digs into the farcical, slapstick elements of the movie with great success, giving “Noises Off”-style vibes as the players uncover corpses and dodge crashing chandeliers. Set pieces drop from the ceiling or unfold rapidly from the walls, with Lee Savage’s design effectively capturing the mansion’s dark corners and secret passages. (Fun allusions to the game abound, including maps that resemble its board and the notepad checklists players use to solve the crime.)"

"...It was a dark and stormy night at the Kennedy Center for the national tour of Clue. My family and I have watched the film countless times and we were eagerly waiting for the curtain to rise in the Opera House. Clue is a triumphant tribute to its source material, touching on classic beats but with added physicality and hijinx. Familiarity with the 1985 Paramount film will not detract from the experience — it will enhance it."

"...Over the course of 90 minutes, numerous talented actors flounce about the stage, do exaggerated double-takes, and struggle with the material ("You can't kill someone twice–that would be overkill!") under the direction of Casey Hushion. Perhaps too many authors have gotten involved over the life of the project, since playwright Sandy Rustin, with assistance from Hunter Foster and Eric Price, is credited with reworking Jonathan Lynn's screenplay for an apparently beloved 1985 movie inspired by the Clue board game."

"...The cast does a fine job of hitting the comedic beats that come at an almost unreal pace and under Casey Hushion’s direction and are able to pull off the bone-dry one-liners effectively. Mark Price and John Shartzer as Wadsworth and Mr. Green (respectively) are stand-outs in their ability to make their characters their own. Price morphs from stoic manservant to sardonic antagonist to mafioso at the drop of a hat, and it was truly a joy to watch the actor work. The last act reveal, in which the audience witnessed Wadsworth’s true nature (or at least a version of it), had the audience in stitches."

"...A stormy night. A lone eerie mansion owned by one, Mr. Boddy. A mysterious party invitation sent to six unrelated party guests. An assortment of items that lead to a murder (or six). These are the initial ingredients for a night of mystery and fun at the Kennedy Center’s Opera House for the performance of the hit show: Clue."

"...It’s Clue, live on stage at The Kennedy Center Opera House, with a murderously sharp take on the 1985 film version of the Hasbro game. The decades-long path from board game to play might have been as long and circuitous as a classic whodunit, but the ultimate proposition is as straightforward as the tidiest of solutions: a light and breezy murder farce.
