Where Words Once Were

Where Words Once Were

The Kennedy Center
2700 F Street, NW Washington

Young Orhan lives in a world where words are both very precious and very dangerous. Only one thousand words can exist, new ones are forbidden and anything newly invented takes the place of an existing word, which is then illegal to say. Such is the fantastical backdrop of Where Words Once Were from renowned Irish-Australian playwright Finegan Kruckemeyer. Set in a city where language is rationed and a sentence can get you sentenced, the silent are rising and Orhan learns that a single word can change the world. Kruckemeyer's The Girl Who Forgot to Sing Badly thrilled young audiences and now kids ages 9 and up can dig into his latest adventure when the world premiere of Where Words Once Were comes to the Family Theater at D.C.'s Kennedy Center.
