The Pirates of Penzance

The Pirates of Penzance

F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre
603 Edmonston Drive Rockville

Gilbert and Sullivan's beloved comic opera The Pirates of Penzance tells the story of Frederic, a boy mistakenly apprenticed to a softhearted band of pirates when his hard-of-hearing nurse is told to take him to a ship's pilot. When his apprenticeship comes to its end, Frederic leaves the pirate ship and promptly falls in love with a Major-General's daughter. Just as he starts planning for his future, the pirates return to inform Frederic that since his birthday falls on leap day, he still has another 63 years of apprenticeship left before he's of age. The score features many of Gilbert and Sullivan's wittiest and most engaging tunes, including the immortal "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General."
