From A.R. Gurney, one of America’s greatest living playwrights comes a hilarious comedy about the joys and woes of owning a dog. Greg and Kate are happily married, comfortably middle class and blissfully empty nesting. That is, until Greg meets a stray mutt, by the name of Sylvia in the park and brings her home. Tempers quickly flare and sacred bonds are soon tested between man and wife, master and pet, pillow and stuffing.

"...One cannot lavish enough praise on Sherry Berg, a rare breed of actress whose full-bodied Sylvia is such a gift it feels like the wonder of Christmas morning and, yay, we’ve all got puppies! Wilder teases out Berg’s muted eroticism — certainly not puppy love — that merits the show’s “adults-only” tag. Whether yapping “Hey!” at Kate in mounting hysteria defining her terrier-tory or making puppy eyes at an indulgent master, Berg worms her way into your heart, leaves you panting and hands-down deserves a “Best in Show” trophy. She mixes “Joisey” street smarts and high-class French poodle into a silky-smooth Bitches Brew."

Sherry Berg is fully committed to the role of Sylvia, spending as much of the play on hands and knees as on her feet. I’ve written about Berg before. She’s a big presence with big energy, unafraid of outlandish and ridiculous performances, and Sylvia is no exception.
