"...That’s because the plot is the least of this play’s concerns. In fact, there’s so much schticki-ness that even the cast winks and mugs to the audience, as if to say—“yes, we totally know, dude, how cheesy this part of the play is, so how ‘bout another song?” And the audience responds with unabashed cheers and the waving of faux-bic lighters, because these actors, particularly Maroulis, have pipes. They hit the notes, they dance the steps, and the sound is great. And I really mean that: the sound is GREAT, which is so important when the songs are the bread and butter. I spoke to the sound technician who explained how the audio levels come up and down with precision and ride just under the dialog without over-powering it. It’s too technical to get into (and involves pre-programming computers) but suffice to say that Rock Of Ages is both loud AND clear."

"...But that's okay. Rock of Ages isn't meant to be taken seriously. It even explicitly laughs at itself at several turns. You're supposed to just come out and enjoy the constant sight-gags -- from the crazy message t-shirts and limber moves of Patrick Lewallen, who serves as the show's narrator Lonny, to Kelly Divine's giddy, goofy choreography, to Gregory Gale's totally rad costuming."

"...This is a five star production! The cast was interactive and musically talented. The set design was effective and the costumes were well done. The lighting added to the show. The combination of the lighting, cast, and band sometimes made the show feel like an 80’s Arena Rock Concert. Rock of Ages ended up being part story, part comedy, part concert, and an entertaining musical. Don’t miss it! Rock on!"

Not a musical, not a revue, not a concert, Rock of Ages is a highly interactive hybrid of the three entertainments. Rock of Ages is nothing more or less than a few hours of pure fun that isn’t meant to be taken seriously, but let’s hope that it is.
