"...With its rather dated depiction of the mores, or lack thereof, of the modern wartime journalist, some aspects of Tom Stoppard's Night and Day may be a little too obvious for a Washington audience. But a bit of patience reveals, as one would expect with Stoppard, far more than initially meets the eye. After the bravado, there are deeper provocations on such topics as ideals versus pragmatism and the notion that the human connection can be at once cynical and poignant. There is also a particularly interesting female lead and plenty of dry humor. In short, it is a play that is both entertaining and intellectually enduring."

"...I remember Night and Day feeling very of-the-moment when Diana Rigg starred in it at the Kennedy Center in 1979. Though technological changes have subsequently turned it into something of a period piece, its concerns still feel plenty timely in Kasi Campbell’s clear-eyed staging at the Artisphere. Where Stoppard’s later plays—The Real Thing, Rock & Roll, Coast of Utopia—overflow with feeling, here he’s waxing Shavian, every character a mouthpiece; Campbell gives them all their due. The accents spray every which way, but the arguments fly true."

"...The Black Box Theater was seemingly designed to be as intimate a performance setting as possible. Its stage juts well into the middle of the room and is surrounded on three sides with seating; an ideal set-up for Night and Day, as the play’s characters are nearly constantly running on and off the set. Those fortunate enough to get front row seats will feel as if they are on the stage with the actors, and must be mindful not to trip the actors as they run by. And while the show is a bit lengthy, Night and Day is still well worth the admission, and comes highly recommended as a well produced, well acted and well staged performance of a modern master’s earlier works."
