Madcap Players brings its Winter Carnival of New Works 8 to the H Street Playhouse for an exciting three-week run, January 13–January 30, 2011. Featuring nine new, cutting-edge 10-minute plays, this year’s Winter Carnival includes Four Dry Tongues and The Narcoleptic Pillow Fight by Philadelphia playwright Alex Dremann. Three works from local playwrights, two international pieces and two other productions by US writers complete the evening. The Winter Carnival will be performed and directed by more than 50 of Washington’s most talented artists.

The festival boasts fewer home runs than last year, but when the producing company’s overt purpose is to foster thematic diversity and eclecticism in their new works, it’s typical to see a few plays that don’t completely find their feet, that stumble over some mis-casting, or that simply float away without clear direction holding them to the ground. Once again this year, it balances out by the end.
