Written first in French and then translated into English—as was the Irish writer’s custom—“Endgame” was first presented in a French language production at the Royal Court Theatre in 1957. Considered “Theatre of the Absurd” the play is one act with four characters and one of Beckett’s most successful works. Samuel Beckett was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1969.
