Nabucco

Nabucco

The Lyric
140 W. Mt Royal Ave Baltimore

Giuseppe Verdi's operatic masterpiece depicts the epic struggle of the Jews against oppression by Babylon's King Nabucco, which echoed Italy's nationalist conflict with Austria at the time Verdi wrote the opera. James Meena conducts the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra in this dazzling new production that features opulent staging and a grand musical score, including one of opera's most famous choruses, "Va pensiero," unofficially adopted as Italy's national anthem. Acclaimed American baritone Michael Chioldi stars in the title role, with virtuoso bel canto soprano Francesca Mondanaro as Abigaille and Oren Gradus in his Baltimore debut as Zaccaria, the Jewish High Priest.
