But who knew that Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and John Polidori's The Vampyre would be the result of vacationing writers competing for the scariest story? While renting out a mansion near Lake Geneva, harsh weather conditions leave Lord Byron and three other authors stranded with nowhere else to go. As they pass the time with ghost stories, a contest for creating the most terrifying tale ensues. Making its world premiere at Artspace Falls Church, the musical spectacular Monsters of the Villa Diodati reveals how genius mixed with inner demons would lead to Gothic literature's most iconic ghouls.
