A boisterous and vibrant portrait of love in a nontraditional family, La Cage aux Folles has been one of Broadway's biggest hits for more than 30 years, earning six Tony Awards along the way, including Best Musical and Best Revival. This heart-warming musical comedy invites you into the lives of Georges and his partner Albin, who plays female impersonator Zaza at the couple's popular St. Tropez drag nightclub. Problems arise when Georges' 25-year-old son comes home with his fiancée and her conservative parents -- and the couple's family dynamic gets turned hilariously upside down. Written by Harvey Fierstein (Newsies, Kinky Boots), this musical smash features Jerry Herman's beloved score, which includes "The Best of Times is Now" and "I Am What I Am." "..."La Cage" is another impressive bit of handiwork from Gardiner, who was responsible for Signature's sensational revival this past winter of "West Side Story." Buoyant and sleek, this incarnation of Herman and Fierstein's musical also allows us to reflect on the more serious implications of the story. If Signature can accomplish this with a musical that on other occasions has seemed merely politically correct and frilly, there is no telling what else this company can do."
