"..."Baskerville" stars Gregory Wooddell as a handsome Holmes who appears to have dropped in from a Colgate commercial, and Lucas Hall is a nearly as attractive but gullible Watson. The other 40-odd characters in the show are played by three multitasking actors. Of particular interest to the Sherlockians was Ludwig's decision to make Sir Henry Baskerville, the heir to the haunted mansion, a gun-toting American from Texas. (He was, in the story, living in Canada at the time of his wealthy uncle's untimely demise.)"

"...This rollicking production, directed by Amanda Dehnert, uses stagecraft and ingenuity to bring Conan Doyle's sprawling story-plus a good deal of incidental humor-to the stage with minimal scenery and only five actors. Gregory Wooddell is an urbane, well-groomed Holmes, Lucas Hall a good-natured Watson, and Stanley Bahorek, Michael Glenn, and Jane Pfitsch inhabit an ever-shifting variety of roles and accents. (Ludwig no doubt was inspired by the imaginative British play The 39 Steps, a zany homage to Alfred Hitchcock's classic suspense thriller presented by a cast of four.)"

Baskerville is a madcap sendup of what you might hold dear about that Doyle classic, done up in the style of The 39 Steps. We know this as early as the second scene, in which Michael Glenn, dressed as a scullery maid, listens with a lurid, vapid grin as Holmes (Gregory Woodell) uses a cane left by a forgetful visitor to deduce that visitor’s history, and to tell it to Watson (Lucas Hall) and Mrs. Hudson (Pfitsch).
