A sometimes comic and other times tragic exploration of the relationships between women who worked as prostitutes during the American occupation of Trinidad & Tobago, Jean and Dinah -- The Play is a highlight of West Indian theater. On the dawn of Carnival Monday in the Port of Spain, Jean comes to take her friend Dinah to the masquerade, just as they've done for the past 40 years. But when Dinah doesn't want to get out of bed, both women discover things about themselves that shaped their lives.

His searing piece, Jean and Dinah – The Play, is a generation old, but a splendid new production by The Essential Theatre raises issues that seem as fresh and relevant today as they were when the play premiered over 20 years ago."

"..."Jean and Dinah... The play" is unapologetically Trinidadian and I literally loved every second of it. That being said, there were a few West Indian colloquialisms that I failed to catch and I, inevitably, missed a joke or two... Or three (it was clear I missed the joke when the West Indian audience members erupted in laughter), but that's neither here nor there. "Jean and Dinah... The Play" is a wonderful production and is highly recommended for all [persons 18 and older] to see."
