"...Itís important to be said that you donít have to know Spanish to enjoy this evening. Many scenes and songs, adapted by Amaury Sanchez and Salgado Productions, alternate in Spanish and English. And in any event, salsa is a universal language. Initially, it is a bit tricky to follow along, especially in the hip-hop sequences, as song verses shift from one language to the other and your eye has to move from the actors to the electronic message boards overhead. Once youíre acclimated, though, comprehension is not a problem."

"...Despite having previously seen two productions of IN THE HEIGHTS, I was extremely excited to see this particular adaptation. As a Cuban-American and fluent Spanish-speaker, I already felt highly connected to the musical with its strong roots in Hispanic culture, and seeing the U.S. premiere of a Spanish-language adaptation seemed almost necessary. It truly did not disappoint. With a dynamic cast, memorable songs, and an intimate setting, GALA Hispanic Theater's Spanish-language adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's IN THE HEIGHTS gave a louder voice to a musical treasure that continues to stress the importance of family, whoever that may be, but also being proud of who you are."

"...What makes this production stand out and worth experiencing, even in you have seen In The Heights before, are the expressions of respect for the older generation. Distilled in the musical number "Paciencia Y Fe/Patience and Faith." Abuela Claudia, sung by vibrant-voiced, impassioned mezzo Michelle Rios says it all. Respect for the wisdom from living longer and providing structure and guidance for upcoming youth. Respect for traditional values can push us forward to fulfill the American Dream. The seniors, Camila and Kevin have an important point of view, something to say worth hearing."
