Not entirely modernized, O'Rowe's Hedda Gabler retains remnants of 19th century formalities. By masterfully blending past conventions with modernized language, O'Rowe's audience lives simultaneously in the past and the present. Observing this dichotomy onstage, it is easy to see just how little has really changed. O'Rowe's modernized Hedda Gabler lends a new layer of complexity to a play that has left generations of theatergoers enraptured, scandalized and stumped."

You'd never guess the play premiered 125 years ago. As such Studio's updating is a perfect entry point for anyone who knows nothing about the play. At the same time for anyone familiar with Hedda Gabler as a great role in dramatic literature-which like the part of Hamlet yields more meaning each time it is played by a fine actor-this show is a thorough thrill."

"...Coffey is mesmerizing. Her Hedda is a potent cocktail of narcissism, disillusionment, jealously and manipulation. Despite returning from the honeymoon of her dreams to the house of her dreams, isolation and boredom take hold. With them are a plethora of excuses and moods. Coffey drives this production with the best of nuanced performances - one that is perfectly measured and explosive at the right times. Even when gazing out of the drawing room window, her magnetism is such that the audience never takes their eyes off her."
