DC native Marjuan Canady transforms herself into 10 diverse characters in Girls! Girls? Girls., a one-woman show that captures the universal voices and concerns of black women. From "booty" fashion mogul Sara Baartman to Black Women News anchor Beverly Brushetta to hot rapper 40 Ounce, Canady explores how society has viewed black women in the past, in the present and in the funny yet frightening future while critiquing the power of the media, celebrity culture and our negative notions of black female identity. Rooted in hip-hop theater and feminist aesthetics, Girls! Girls? Girls. explores issues of sexual exploitation, devaluation and misogyny at Atlas Performing Arts Center, where it appears as part of the 2016 INTERSECTIONS Festival.
