"...Rougher, more mysterious edges throughout would be welcome, although it's also fair to wonder whether "Fool" - by 1983 an efficient and comparatively audience-friendly distillation of Shepard's longtime preoccupations - still has its swift bronco kick. (A Williamstown Theater Festival staging this summer with Sam Rockwell and Nina Arianda caused a stir, so maybe it does.) May and Eddie refer to the unbreakable thing that binds them as a "pact," and even as a "disease." But this revival hasn't caught the fever yet."

"...Both deBuys and Keegan throw themselves into their characters body and soul, but strong performances don't make May and Eddie any less cryptic as people. The physical contrast between them adds an interesting touch: Keegan is much taller and broader than deBuys, but she gives as good as she gets. Lodge, a longtime Round House favorite, gives dimension to a man looking at a situation he can't change—and wouldn't if he could."
