"...This production seems fresh and almost brand new, not so much because of its political echo, but because of the more intimate style of the production, with a revved-up energy and an accessible group of performers. Credit some of that to choreographer Christopher d'Amboise, who has his ten-member ensemble executing sharp, sometimes tango-like movements throughout the production. They give extended, atmospheric punctuation to a score that includes solid renditions of some classic songs, including the always memorable "Don't Cry For Me Argentina.""

The direction is taut and well-paced; the choreography is extremely precise while Mr. Youstra's seven-person orchestra provides the right balance in support of the vocalists."

"...It's not an easy show to sing, especially for the Eva Perón character. LuPone complained of having to scream her way through the part "that could only have been written by a man who hates women." In the Olney production, Rachel Zampelli starts with a voice amped so brashly trenchant I thought she might shatter the lights in the theatre. Her take at the start defies us to like this character. With nerves of steel and an ambition to match, the young Eva uses whoever comes into her orbit to get to the next rung of her swift climb to the top. There's nothing, at first, in Zampelli's voice or in her manner that seems appealing."

"...Together with Choreographer Christopher d'Amboise's powerful , exquisite, and synchronized style of dance makes this an EVITA not to be missed. You may recognize the name d'Amboise. His father Jacques is a legend in the ballet world made famous by the superb PBS documentary film about his work with the National Dance Theatre in 1984, "He Makes Me Feel Like Dancin'", a televised documentary which even won an Academy Award. If you have not seen it, make the effort. It was such an honor to meet him after the performance of EVITA. The dance moves must be in the genes for his daughter Charlotte has been nominated twice for a Tony Award. Christopher likewise has been nominated for a Tony Award for Webber's SONG AND DANCE."
