Experience Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel, which Time magazine called the greatest musical of the 20th century, at DC's Arena Stage. In Carousel, swaggering, carefree carnival barker Billy Bigelow captivates the naive millworker Julie and they marry. Just as they learn that Julie is pregnant, Billy loses his job. Desperate to provide a decent life for his family, he allows himself to be coerced into taking part in a bank robbery. Things go horribly awry, but fifteen years later Billy gets the chance to see his wife and the daughter he never knew. How Billy instills in both his child and her mother a sense of hope and dignity is a dramatic testimony to the power of love. With classic songs like "June Is Bustin' Out All Over" and "You'll Never Walk Alone," it's easy to understand why, of all the shows they created together, Carousel was Rodgers and Hammerstein's personal favorite.
