Boged (Traitor): An Enemy of the People

Theater J and Georgetown University present a timely update of Henrik Ibsen's masterpiece An Enemy of the People. Their version, written for today's political climate, is set in Israel. A sudden chemical leak in an industrial park endangers the region's water supply. The mayor is quick to cover up the scandal, but his brother believes the truth should be told. This fight, which begins as a family feud, quickly turns into a political war with major environmental repercussions. Inspired by the social justice movement in Israel over the past year, this timely adaptation of Ibsen's play is the creation of Boaz Gaon and Nir Erez. Gaon is an Israeli playwright who previously adapated Ghassan Kanafani's Return to Haifa, which had a very successful run at Theater J in 2011.
