Raised in a world without death, best friends Adam and Evelyn study dying obsessively. In the recent past, a young woman barters for her beloved brother while Death peels oranges. Elsewhere, a rich man seeks to buy world peace, and a song of great sorrow and beauty is sung and sung again. When being immortal is normal, what is the meaning of life without death?

"...The image is both whimsical and pleasingly mythic. And, in Rorschach Theatre's premiere production of the play, actor Dallas Tolentino (in unnerving facial makeup) makes Death a splendidly sinister and moody presence. Unfortunately, the character turns up in only one of the three stories that twine through Bregman's quirky meditation on loss and mortality. Acting that is merely serviceable saps zest from a second, sci-fi-flavored plotline, and a third registers as dull and trifling in its critical early moments. All three stories ultimately connect in an ingenious way, but, at least as directed by Lee Liebeskind, the play as a whole often feels slow and studied."

"...I think the best part is that my interpretation of this play as sections of Velines' character's mind could be totally and utterly "wrong" (ie not what the production intended), but given these great easily digestible parts, that doesn't matter. It is a great play either way. But A Bid to Save the World goes beyond mere greatness. Here Rorschach Theater has done what it does best: make an impossible story come to life in front of an audience. And, trust me, you want to be in that audience."

"...All of the cast members do an excellent job connecting with the audience and playing their roles, however strange or unnamed those roles may be. In fact, much of A BID TO SAVE THE WORLD seems to revolve around a look at humanity as a whole; of the impact of death and life on us not simply as individuals, but as a collective. Not only that, but the cast often acts together as a moving image as well as frequently performing in one voice, harmonizing together the "song of great sorrow and beauty" that haunts across the different worlds."
