The year is 1956, and the Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein is having its annual quiche breakfast. Daily life is quiet, and excitement is kept to a minimum. But there's an unexpected item on the agenda this year: the very real threat of atom bombs being dropped on the ladies' idyllic town. As the meeting adjourns to the bomb shelter, things take a turn for the worse. Cramped in a small space with what may just be the last quiche on Earth, scandalous secrets come out and tensions -- sexual and otherwise -- rise among the women in this new hilarious production of the 2012 New York Fringe Fest top prize winner at the Atlas Performing Arts Center in D.C.

"...This whole show is really fun. Though it's a saucy spoof of the sexual repression of the pre-women's-movement 50s and a savvy look back at the paranoia of the Cold War, don't come hungry for a heavy meal. Monumental Theater Company's 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche is light as a souffle, deep as a perfect pie crust, and deliciously hilarious."

"...From its impulsive, zany characters to the flimsy (though well-dressed) set, this show feels straight out of Capital Fringe. In fact, its debut won Best Overall Production at the 2012 New York Fringe Festival! The edgy playfulness that defines Fringe comedies is well-established from the beginning when the audience is renamed Betty & Gladys and other period names. Though it stagnates under the Lulie administration and makes little of the subject matter besides fun, that winning energy carries the second half. If the warmer weather has you missing cheap Prosecco and branded buttons, then 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche is just what you need."

"...Aside from the dreadful script, Director Jimmy Mavrikes thinks that hearing high and screechy lesbians for 75 minutes is a good idea. Actually, it just makes the show very grating. Each of these characters has a story, but aside from Malinda Markland as Vern Shultz, you don't care. This is because Markland is the only one delivering any kind of a multi-level performance. It's subdued and very welcomed amidst all the high pitch screeching from everyone else. That being said, I can see that the cast has plenty of talent and under better circumstances they all would have come off better than they do here."
